Fall Classic Final Game Captures Over 50 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extra-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run averaged a aggregate 51 million viewers in the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this is the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic game drew over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English program in the country after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – recorded over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-game World Series drew 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total American viewership reached 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09 million watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and the network’s best postseason ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen various tongues.
