Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
